What Are The Tinnitus Treatment Options?

Tinnitus or “ringing in the ears” is common condition affecting millions worldwide. The affects can be mild, leading some to simply ignore it. Or, moderate to severe resulting in a visit to an ear, nose and throat specialist for testing.

Tinnitus treatment is extremely important because it can cause problems with concentration as well as emotional well being in certain people. Types of treatment vary and will depend upon the level of tinnitus that you experiencing.

Frequently, first visits to an ENT specialist or audiologist are covered by health insurance, but it is also quite possible that the one you are seeking is not covered because they are considered experimental.

Some of the most common tinnitus treatments are:

* Accupuncture
* Acoustic Stimulation
* Biofeedback
* Cranial Sacral Therapy
* Electrical Stimulation
* Feedback Therapy
* Hearing Aids
* Homeopathic Remedies
* Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
* Hypnosis
* Sound Therapy
* Surgically Severing the Auditory Nerves
* Tinnitus Retaining therapy

Additional treatments may be suggested such as medication like anti-anxiety drugs and antidepressants. Stress management may be recommended due to the effects of stress on the body which can bring on tinnitus. Dental treatment for temporomandibular (TMD) which can cause tinnitus, and nutritional guidance because certain foods have been known to aggravate it.

Tinnitus should never be ignored because it is actually a symptom of something else going on in the body.

Tinnitus Retraining Therapy : Will It Help With Ringing In The Ears?

Tinnitus is condition where a person experiences a sensation of a ringing, roaring, chirping or buzzing in the ears or head. It is typically related to varied forms of hearing loss. It can also be a symptom of an ear infection, Meniere’s disease, the use of certain drugs and many other maladies. It has been estimated that somewhere between ten and seventeen percent of the world population has experienced tinnitus at some time during their lives.

Tinnitus retraining therapy (TRT) essentially trains the individual suffering from the common complaint of “ringing in the ears” on how to ignore this troubling noise. It is basically a combination of counseling and sound therapy.

It can take many months of therapy to achieve any results which of course are not guaranteed. And these treatments are very expensive and usually not covered by medical insurance. Tinnitus retraining therapy centers charge on average about $3000.

Some TRT centers claim a high success rate but it should be noted that most ENT specialists recommend this only for patients with severe tinnitus.

Many people who have mild to moderate noise levels have successfully retrained themselves to ignore or block out tinnitus. You might say they have developed their own tinnitus retraining therapy. Others however are not so lucky and should consider options.

How Much Fat Is Healthy?

Healthy Fat Intake

It’s a well know fact that the majority of men, women and children have too much fat in their diet, creating a number of health issues including cancer. Diets that are high in fat are associated with breast and colon cancer, with some studies linking high fat to prostate cancer as well.

It’s possible for many people to reduce the fat intake to more normal levels by making a few minor adjustments in the way they shop, cook, and prepare the foods they eat.

There is really no reasonable excuse for consuming too much fat, as food companies are obligated to show the amount of fat along with other ingredients on the label and through their company brochures.

By comparing foods and food brands you can decide on the ones that have lower fat content. Whilst two similar foods will look the same the different quantity in each may shock you. Using this information you can determine the amount of fat you are consuming on a daily basis.

Every day will be different as the types of food consumed will vary, some foods will have a higher fat content than others. Even high fat meals can be kept in line with healthy eating as long as you balance those days accordingly.  The average fat intake over the course of weeks and months is paramount, not the fat intake of every meal and food you consume.

Younger adults and high active adults who do regular exercise workouts have higher calorie needs can probably eat a little more fat, whilst older adults and those that aren’t very active should aim for a lower fat intake.  This way, you can control your fat intake and avoid the many problems that fat is associated with.

Having too much fat also is the main contributory fact in weight gain, so rather than go through all the pain of trying to lose weight and to deal with health issues that may arise it pays to watch the fat intake very closely and eat sensibly.

The Cause Of Tinnitus – Actually There Are Several

Over the last decade, scientists have made enormous progress in solving what the cause of tinnitus is and how to treat it.

Experiences of tinnitus are very common in all age groups, especially following exposure to loud noise. However, it is unusual for it to be a major problem. There is a widely held misconception that tinnitus is limited to the elderly, but numerous studies have demonstrated that it can occur at any age, even quite the young.

Lack of education about developing noise-induced tinnitus continues to be a primary reason that so many people develop this hearing problem. Years of noise exposure can be a cause of tinnitus. Going to rock concerts, playing music too loud and working around loud machinery are prime examples.

Certain drugs can also be a problem, since more than 200 of them can cause tinnitus. Often, when you stop medication usage, tinnitus goes away.

Tinnitus can also be a symptom of additional health issues. If you have this condition you should have it checked out by your doctor as soon as possible.

Approximately twenty-five million Americans have experienced this irritating problem and while the cause if tinnitus is known medical science has yet to find a medical solution. There are however alternative treatments.

Don’t sweat it; there is an excessive sweating remedy

Excessive sweating, or Hyperhidrosis, as it is referred medically, is a common complaint affecting thousands of people at one time or another.  Knowing this however, did nothing to alleviate the discomfort and embarrassment I suffered.  Having tried most excessive sweating remedy suggestions, I was beginning to think I was stuck with the problem for life.

Not being able to afford the expensive new surgical procedures, and having no real success with deodorants and talc’s; I was ready to throw in the sweat soaked towel.

Fortunately, during a regular consultation with my doctor, he suggested a new approach; which is proving the most effective excessive sweating remedy I have tried.

The first step was to dramatically increase my intake of water.  He also advised that I should try to only drink room temperature water; apparently, cooled water simply serves to tell your body to warm itself up!  Drinking high amounts of water lowers your body temperature, and aids hydration.

Secondly, I had to cut down on spicy foods.  Including onions and garlic, this was extremely hard.  However, these and other food types such as caffeine and alcohol are major triggers of sweating.

I have to say, that simply taking these steps has provided me with a really successful excessive sweating remedy.  Finally, I can wear those vests and tight fitting tops with confidence.

YOGA NIDRA – the Practice of Relaxation

Yama, the first stage in Ashtanga Yoga, represents the end of the old ways and the first positive stage in the practice of a new self image and the elimination of bad habits relating both to health and character. The practices are to clear the way and demand the application of physical methods for inner body hygiene as well as the eradication of any layers of emotional and mental stress that may inhibit one’s progress to health and happiness.

 For eliminating stress we have the practice of relaxation which releases strain from the whole psyche. There are many and various methods used in teaching relaxation but in Yoga, traditional preparation for practising what is known as Yoga Nidra remains constant.

 Yoga Nidra means ‘the yogi’s sleep’

We first assume the body position or asana called Savasana by lying flat on the floor along the north/south polarity if possible, arms down by the sides with eyes closed. The asana translates as the ‘Corpse’ or ‘Dead man Posture’ in which we obviously assume an immobile pose. With our eyes closed we become sensitive towards our surroundings, our body sensations and energies and also become more aware of our emotional and mental states of being.

 To be comfortable and able to relax completely in stillness is regarded as the first stage in control of the body. It is a discipline of equal or greater importance and difficulty than skills in body exercise or movement. A passive peaceful body is required as a prelude to passive, peaceful states of mind known in the stillness of meditation.

 Stillness of the body in Yoga Nidra is designed to help us become receptive, first to outward sounds and impressions and then free of the distractions of others, to become inwardly aware of our whole being. Relaxation in classwork is generally limited to a specific period of time, such as fifteen or sometimes thirty minutes.
