Heart Friendly Olive Oil
Recent studies have shown that people who regularly consume olive oil have a greatly reduced chance of developing coronary heart disease. The most significant benefit was realized by the group that was limited to the exclusive use of olive oil, instead of butter or vegetable oils for cooking. So in addition to taking a quality DHA fish oil supplement, make sure you incorporate plenty of olive oil into your diet.
Here are some easy-to-adopt, everyday tips for adding more essential fatty acids to your diet with olive oil:
1) Try adding some virgin olive oil to your food after its cooked which will give a nice added flavor. Also uncooked olive oil will also preserve the nutrient levels in the oil which can be diminished with cooking over high heat.
2) Skip the butter at the dinner table. Instead, serve small dishes of olive oil that you can dunk your bread in and also spread on your vegetables.
3) If you must fry your food (chicken cutlets for example) try using a 50/50 mixture of olive oil and vegetable oil.
4) Steam your vegetables or stir-fry them in a wok and add olive oil for flavor after cooking.
5) Make one of a variety of different salad dressings which are based on olive oil.
6) Use a food processor to make a delicious dip by pureeing beans, olive oil, and garlic together.
